    Overview

    About the Project

Displacement affects shelter, income, health, education and many others. In relocation areas across seven woredas in Somali and Oromia regions, many women and youth thinking about starting a business face limitations in understanding of entrepreneurship, limited access to finance and weak market linkages to restart their lives.

In partnership with IOM, and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Reach for Change is working with selected displacement affected and host community entrepreneurs to rebuild sustainable and independent sources of income through business development and financial inclusion.

The project focuses on strengthening the livelihood of families through establishment and strengthening of small businesses, improving financial access, and building long-term collaboration between communities, financial institutions, and government stakeholders.

    Our Approach

We apply a practical, ecosystem-based approach that supports people and the systems around them.

    Business Development Support

Participants receive structured entrepreneurship training and continuous coaching tailored to small and micro businesses operating in displacement settings.

    Seed Capital and Business Strengthening

Individuals and business groups receive start-up contribution financial support to strengthen or expand their businesses. The funding enables entrepreneurs to invest in establishing their business, increase stock capacity, and stabilize income sources.

    Microfinance Linkage and Financial Inclusion

A key component of the project is bridging the gap between displacement-affected entrepreneurs and financial institutions.

    Stakeholder Collaboration for Durable Solutions

The project works closely with local government structures and community committees to ensure businesses remain supported after the project ends.

    Expected Impact

The project aims to create sustainable economic recovery rather than temporary assistance.

    Participants are expected to:

✔️ Improve livelihood and household financial security

    ✔️ Re-establish stable income sources

✔️ Empowerment of Women and Youth

✔️ Build confidence and social integration

✔️ Maintain ongoing relationships with financial institutions

✔️ Transition from aid dependence to market participation

At the ecosystem level, the project strengthens collaboration between humanitarian and development actors, contributing to long-term durable solutions for displacement-affected communities.
